The AAUW mission is to advance equity for all women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy,  and research.

        AAUW FUNDS

If your branch is planning to participate in the AAUW Funds convention fundraiser please be sure to return your branch participation form to Diane by January 16th.

Read about AAUW's most recent research report, Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School, that deals with sexual harassment in our schools. The report was made possible by the Mooneen Lecce Giving Circle and the Eleanor Roosevelt Fund. This is a follow up to Hostile Hallways: Bullying, Teasing and Sexual Harassment in School published in 2001.

These include the following programs: To see the diagram of these funds click on funds.

Would you or your branch like to donate money to a specific fellowship or grant in the Educational Opportunities Fund?  if so, read this message from the Vero Beach Branch.

In 2004, the Vero Beach branch started the Jannetta MacPhail/Harriett Strong Endowment Fund (#4290) to provide career development grants to women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers or re-enter the workforce. This is a ten (10) year commitment for $75,000.00.

To date we have funded $51,216.00. We requested a two (2) year extension to fully satisfy this commitment but National AAUW denied the request and informed us “If this endowment is not able to be completed within the allotted time frame, the money raised through the deadline will be folded into a pot of endowments...”

As a branch, we are very unhappy with national's response but know that we cannot raise the $23,784 by the deadline without help from other branches or their members..

We are asking that any branch sending contributions to National, that is not committed to a specific AAUW fund, to please designate their contribution or a portion of their contribution to Fund #4290 MacPhail/Strong. This will greatly help us to meet our commitment in the allotted time and allow this endowment fund to remain intact. We l appreciate contributions of any size to this grant honoring two of our dedicated members.

AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund History and Information

The Educational Foundation, formed in 1958, is the world’s largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women. The Foundation’s endowed funds - the American Fellowships, International Fellowships, Selected Professions Fellowships, Career Development Grants – provide women with financial support for individual research and formal academic pursuits beyond a Bachelor’s degree. American Fellowships are one- year research fellowships in the arts and sciences for dissertations, post-doctoral research and to prepare completed research for publication. International Fellowships are for women graduate students from countries outside the U.S. with emphasis given to studies related to changing the lives of women and girls. Selected professions Fellowships are for one year in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences and Mathematics.

The Foundation’s Eleanor Roosevelt Fund, started in 1988, provided women public school teachers grades K-12 with professional development opportunities and supported projects targeting areas of high need for girls and teachers. Teachers who worked with underserved girls or communities, technology education, and programs stimulating interest in math, science, and technology were the primary focus of the fellowships. Until 2004 a five-day teacher institute was held annually for teachers who had been awarded Professional Development Fellowships. Now the Eleanor Roosevelt Fund supports educational research and publishes reports regarding the research results.

On July 1, 2009 the Educational Foundation and all of its fellowships, grants, programs and other activities were officially and legally restructured into AAUW.  Some of the programs included in the Educational Opportunities Fund (#4336) are:
American Fellowships, International Fellowships, Selected professions Fellowships, Community Action Grants, Career Development Grants, Fellows Alumnae Initiative and Undergraduate Scholarship Clearinghouse. The Eleanor Roosevelt Fund (#9170) supports AAUW research to provide analysis, data and accurate information about issues that are important to women and girls.

To make a contribution to any of the funds that were previously part of the Educational Foundation using a credit card complete this new online contribution  form.  This form has clear instructions for filling out the form and the proper way to designate the fund to which the donation is being made. If you prefer to pay with a check made payable to AAUW Funds, use the same contribution form but print it and complete it off-line. Branches and AAUW members making contributions should use the forms in the Member Services Database located in the AAUW Member Center.
