What’s on Your Mind Convention Workshop topics discussed and/or mentioned

 

-         Post a list of voting scores for our state legislators

-         District lobby corps

-         Increase Educational Foundation fellowships awarded to Floridians

-         Increase the number of younger members in branches

-         Create a fund in Florida to help out FL applicants for community/fellowship grants

-         Offer a grant writing workshop at our next convention.

-        Have college liaison who knows how to write grants to work with branches in the area

-         Create a Student Advisory Council in state:  form a program for convention with undergrads and grads

-         Hold a negotiating skill workshop for student advisory council

-         Call them student members not student affiliates

-         Pay Equity could be a state wide project – learn to negotiate salaries & raises

-         WAGE Club in Vero—Women Are Getting Even – they invited women in community to join. Ask Vero to share this program with branches or have as a convention program

-         Student affiliate can hold office—change bylaws

-         Change governance of branches and state – we need a president and treasurer; the rest can be appointed

-         Mid-Pinellas has 6 co-presidents who change every 3 months – other branches could try something like this

-         Forget bylaws change until we learn what the AAUW bylaws changes will be & if they are approved

-         Do more mission driven projects and programming

-         There should be a reason to hold interbranch meetings such as forming a pay equity group

-          Do we need Directors at Large? 

-         Change the bylaws to remove requirement than president must have served on the board members at some time

-         Communication – needs improvement

-         Have a pre-convention symposium at noon on Friday – health issues?

      -         Have trouble shooters around the state to help branches cope with problems
