FL AAUW Mini-Grant

II. GUIDELINES

Purpose: These grants provide funds in the amount of $100 to $500 to support the Action Priorities of Florida AAUW; advance the Florida AAUW mission; develop the programmatic elements of the Florida Strategic Plan; provide opportunities for women and girls to achieve their full potential.

Eligibility: Any Florida AAUW Branch may submit a proposal that has direct community or public impact. No branch may receive a grant in two consecutive years.

Criteria for Selection: (1) evidence of need; (2) clear and specific objectives; (3) creativity of solution to problem or concern; (4) evidence of careful planning, feasible plan of action, realistic plan of action, realistic time frame, and clear evaluation process; (5) validity of budget proposal; (6) clarity of written proposal.

Funds can be used for: postage, mailing, mailing, shipping, photocopying or duplication, lease of equipment, audio-visual materials, project-related telephone costs, advertising/publicity/graphic design, and travel such as member mileage when giving a multiple day seminar/classes at a distant public school or PACE Center..

Funds cannot be used for: salaries and scholarships, honoraria, building funds, purchase of equipment, personal expenses, meals, food, beverages, or lodging or previous expenses.

Regulations: The grant must be administered by your branch and not by another organization. Funds may not be used to benefit organizations other than AAUW. Cooperative proposals must have an AAUW member in a leadership position and controlling the project. UNSUCCESSFUL PROPOSALS MAY BE RESUBMITTED ONLY ONCE. Projects may not seek to influence new or pending legislation or favor a political candidate or party.

Suggestions for Projects: Mini-grant projects should be action-oriented and should involve the community in some way. The following projects have been proposed by ranches: math/science camps or programs; Rolling Readers; "Girls Can"; Title IX; Sports Equity; mentoring; women's history projects; evaded curriculum (domestic violence, drugs, body image, etc.); diversity projects; economic empowerment for women programs; etc. These are only suggestions, and are not meant to be all-inclusive. A small stipend ($50-$100) is also available for travel expenses to a branch who wishes to audit a project from another branch, in order to replicate it. Replication of the project is a prerequisite to the awarding of the stipend.

III. PROCEDURES AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. Complete the cover page completely. This page will be kept by the committee chair and used to assign a number to all applications. Grant applications will be forwarded to evaluators by number in order to insure anonymity.

2. Complete all items on the mini-grant Project Proposal Form. Be specific and brief. Attach no more than one additional page if information is needed to clarify the project. For those working on computer, you may create your own form, as long as you maintain the exact content and layout. DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR BRANCH NAME OF ANY INFORMATION THAT WOULD IDENTIFY YOUR BRANCH.

3. The budget page should include evidence of availability of some additional funding for the project, even if it is in-kind funding. List specifically what you are purchasing (e.g., if a video, give its name; if office supplies, state specific items). Other funds could be from your branch or financial donations outside your branch. In-kind contributions might be number of hours worked by the project director, committee member, etc. - assign a dollar value per hour taking into account your volunteer status.. For the donation of a facility, list the usual rental charge. You may call the min-grant chair for any clarifications.

4. A brief report will be required from the branches awarded the mini-grant on completion of the project. The report should contain the results of your evaluations, how visibility was achieved, how well you met your goals, and how and to whom the results were distributed. For the budget page, use a copy of the budget page enclosed, completing the column "Actual Amount Spent" to verify how you spent the money.
