MEETING LOCATION AND TIME
Members and their guests meet at 11:30 a.m. the third Saturday of each month from September through May at the Royal Palm Yacht Club in downtown Fort Myers for programs that address issues of interest to women that begin with a delicious lunch. The charge for the lunch is $17.00. An open Board meeting is held at 10:30 a.m. to conduct branch business. ABOUT US The Lee County Branch began in 1961 as the Fort Myers Branch. In 2000 the name was changed to Lee County in order to be more inclusive of nearby communities. We welcome new members with associate or bachelor's degrees from accredited academic institutions and offer a special membership, Friends, to those who have not earned a degree and support the mission and purpose of AAUW. AAUW membership provides an opportunity to network with local community leaders and women of varied backgrounds. We support the AAUW Educational Opportunities Funds and Legal Advocacy Fund and offer four scholarships for Lee County women. Two are $10,000 endowments: one at Florida Gulf Coast University established in 2000 and another established at Edison State College in 2005. Also in 2005 a bequest from Sue Gottcent's trust established the AAUW/Sue Gottcent Memorial Scholarship Fund with the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to at least two Lee County women preferably at least 25 years old. 2010-11 CALENDAR Saturday, September 25th - 11:30 am - First Meeting after the summer break.
